TRAVNIK-BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA



NASTANAK I NAZIV GRADA

Grad Travnik, koji je 150 godina bio glavni grad bosanskog pašaluka, rezidencija 77 vezira, sjedište dva konzulata, smješten u središtu BiH, danas predstavlja glavni administrativno-politički centar Srednjobosanskog kantona.
Postoji mnogo legendi, po kojma je grad Travnik dobio ime, ali najzanimljivija je ona po kojoj je još u predosmanskom vremenu, u tvrđavi stolovao činovnik, koji je ubirao travarinu. Grad se pod ovim imenom, prvi put u historijskim dokumentima spominje 03. juna 1463. godine, kada je turski historičar Dursun-beg, kazao da je na putu prema kraljevskom gradu Jajcu, sultan Mehmed II osvojio Travnik.

OSNOVNE KARAKTERISTIKE

Općina Travnik zauzima površinu od 563 km² sa 70.402 stanovnika po popisu iz 1991. godine. Na nadmorskoj visini od 514 m, Travnik je okružen sa sjevera, jednom od najljepših bh planina Vlašićem (1963m), a sa juga Vilenicom, koje poklonicima direktnog doživljaja prirode pružaju istinski odmor za dušu i tijelo.

KULTURNO-HISTORIJSKA OBILJEŽJA

Tokom svoje prošlosti, bogate kulturnom i historijskom tradicijom, zanimljivim događajima i znamenitim ličnostima, Travničani svoj grad s pravom nazivaju i grad-muzej nad otvorenim nebom. Ovaj grad je karakterističan po mnogočemu. Burna prošlost, polučila je i ostavila iza sebe mnoge znamenite ličnosti i događaje. Na svakom koraku, ovaj grad sam priča svoju priču...Posebnim u svijetu ga čine dvije 20-metarske sahat kule, koje su travnički veziri podigli u XVIII stoljeću, a jedinim u BiH ga čini sunčani sat, izgrađen 1886. godine. Ovaj grad, predstavlja riznicu raznovrsnih kulturno-historijskih događaja, pa je tako ovo bilo pogodno tlo i za nastanak mnogih znamenitih ličnosti. Travnik je iznjedrio i mnoge umjetnike, naučnike, putopisce, ali prije svega je podario plemenite i srdačne ljude. Travnik je jedan od najbolje očuvanih gradova. Na ovom području postoji 28 zaštićenih kulturno-historijskih objekata, od kojih je većina u aktivnoj funkciji, a među njima se posebno izdvajaju: srednjovjekovna tvrđava, koja je izgrađena u XV stoljeću; Jeni džamija, koja predstavlja najstariji objekat iz turskog perioda; Sulejmanija ili Šarena džamija; Turbeta: Muhidin-Zade Abdulahpaše, Seid Hafiz Ali Dželaludinpaše i Perićan Mustafapaše, koja su izgrađena krajem XVIII i početkom XIX stoljeća; Hafizadića kuća; Isusovačka gimnazija i Elči Ibrahim-pašina medresa. Bitno je spomenuti još i nadaleko poznati travnički sir, zatim kratkokljune golubove, Plavu vodu i atraktivno izletište i ski centar na Babanovcu,.. Travnik se ponosi i rodnom kućom nobelovca Ive Andrića, te mnogim znamenitim Travničkim umjetnicima i naučnicima, ali također i tradicionalnom gostoljubivošću stanovnika ovog grada.

Još od vremena starih Rimljana, kojima je Lašvanska dolina bila prolazište za važne trgovačke puteve, Travnik i danas predstavlja bitnu raskrsnicu bosanskohercegovačkih, pa i evropskih puteva. ORIGIN AND NAME OF THE CITY
