Mardin je grad u jugoistočnoj Turskoj i administrativni centar provincije Mardin,poznat po svojoj arapskoj arhitekturi,te strateškom položaju na planini sa koje se mogu nadzirati nizije sjeverne Sirije.
Najraniji stanovnici Mardina su bili sirijski pravoslavni kršćani, koji su osnovali grad u 3. vijeku. Grad je održao svoj kršćanski identitet tokom muslimanske arapske vlasti između 7. i 13. vijeka, te čak kada ga je za svoj glavni grad proglasilo pleme Artukidskih Turkmena između 12. i 14. vijeka. Pleme su godine 1394. pokorili Mongoli, ali nikada nisu direktno upravljali područjem.
Mardin je postao dio Otomanskog imperija pod Selimom I godine 1517, te ostao pod otomanskom vlašću sve do prvog svjetskog rata.

The earliest inhabitants of Mardin were Syriac Orthodox Christians, who founded the city in the 3rd century.
